Flea Market Finds Pour La Semaine Vingt-Deux

It's time again for Flea Market Finds!! Whoopee Ding Dong!! Shee Blam!! Whoohoo!!
Can you think of ANYTHING more exciting???!!
"Watching the grass grow you say?" Or perhaps "chatting up a used car salesman?"
Mais noooooo ma cheries! This post will be even better than those! *winks*... OK maybe only slightly lol!... But I'm gonna try real hard!
It's been hard times on the thriftin' trail for me. The fabulous finds have been elusive... But... I did manage a few nifty treats. Well... I'll let you be the judge... so I'll start with my absolute fave (it's kind of a close three way tie this week)
This charming little antique french miss is actually an inkwell. $86.50 at a local antique store. I love the sweet little cobalt well! It even came with a matching blue quill.

Update: My friend Richard from My Old Historic House and antiquer extraordinaire told me this inkwell is old paris porcelain and early 1820-1840! YIPPEE!! I done good!

    Isn't she sweet?

Then I stumbled on this reproduction antique barometer at a local antique mall. The owner of the space was there and he told me his father had worked at La Barge in the 70's and he brought this home from there. It was $75 and if you know anything about La Barge? it was a VERY good price *winks*

I found this large antique charcoal portrait of a young 18th century man on craigslist for $20. He's a keeper! Sorry about the bad picture, the glass was very reflective. This shot doesn't do him any justice.

This huge mirrored tray was $20 and has cherubs with little birds on each end. It will be living on my coffee table *winks*

    Isn't he a cutie?

Then while I was at the Goodwill I found this wacky crazy cool vintage Japanese lady lamp from the 50's. It's also a music box and plays "Some Enchanted Evening" (The Japanese lady spins) The color of the globe is bright blue until you turn the lamp on and then it changes color! There's also a small pagoda that can be seen in the crystal spire with a small deer sitting beside it. I'll be adding it to my etsy goodies.

    Unique and kooky!! Lol!

The top reads "MERRY LAMP" It's in pristine condition.

Can you see the outline of the little deer under the pagoda in the spire?

I found this pretty hand painted rose bowl at the Value Village.

Aren't the soft pink roses luscious?!

This darling planter with barbola rose swags was $5.99 at the Goodwill. It originally had a black rose arrangement in it! Eeeeeewwww! Can you imagine a worse choice?!! What were they thinkin'? Anyhoo out they went... Needless to say I'm ready for Halloween with my black bouquet *winks*

And some more vintage alabaster grapes from the Goodwill for $3.99.

Another addition to my Odd Fellows collection. This antique collar was $5 on ebay.

I love the little metal tassels!

I tried my hand at a little gesso transformation via Rosemary at Villa Barnes on this frame/plateau from the Goodwill for 99 cents. It started out a bright tacky gold with some pressed dried flowers. I'm not sure it's much of an improvement lol! *winks* but I can always slap on some more gesso!

Sorry I didn't get a better shot of the before, it somehow got deleted, but you get the idea.

And finally a set of sheer white lawn curtains with the prettiest tucked detail at the top from the Value Village.

That's it for this week. I hope you'll come back next week for more flea market finds. Please leave me a comment, I'd LOVE to hear from you! And I'll do the same *winks* Vanna

  • EVENT: Patio Season is Alive and Well

With the official start of summer, comes the official start of soaking up the sun on restaurant patios.

Here are a few of my recommendations in Regina:

Cafe Orange: At the moment, Orange is doing coffee and sweets, but they tell me that a full menu is coming soon. Hopefully by Canada Day. In just two years, this place has gone from a coffee house/kitchenware store; to an all-out coffee house; and now a restaurant. The latest transformation looks to be the best. And the deck out front on Robinson Street (by the 13th Ave. Safeway) is so new you can still smell the sweet scent of new wood. (306) 779-0779 (no website)

Sweet Bakery and Coffee House: An ever-expanding list of baked goods, combined with comfortable surrounds in a heritage building (and a very nice, if small, patio outside) are turning this new Broad Street place near College Avenue into a favourite of many. Recommend an Americano with a Lemon Tart, if you're at a loss. (306) 352-9338 (no website)

La Bodega: the treetop patio at this Cathedral Village favourite is... tops, no pun intended. Sip a few drinks or have lunch high above the Albert Street traffic. You won't even notice the cars going by. www.labodegaregina.com / (306) 546-3660

Fireside Bistro: while opinions on Fireside often vary, their patio on the corner of Smith Street and 15th Avenue is second to none. Definitely worth a drink or two and an appetizer on a hot day. (306) 761-2305 (no website)

Beer Bros.: Watch the people go by on downtown's pedestrianized portion of Scarth Street. Beer Bros newly refinished patio is small but full of sunshine. Stop by and sample an exotic beer whose name you can't even pronounce (and that's before you start drinking). www.beerbros.ca / (306) 586-2337

Atlantis: This downtown coffee spot isn't licensed for liquor, but that doesn't keep the crowds away. Open from the early morning until late, and offers free wireless. Oh, and the artwork on the walls is all by local artists. www.atlantiscoffee.com / (306) 565-2213

  • Flea Market Finds Pour La Semaine Vingt-et-un

Flea Market Finds Pour La Semaine Vingt-et-un

Hi peeps!! Just a few things to share this week because of my shopping extravaganza last week *winks*
I'll start as usual with my favorite find. It's a vintage HUGE rose covered fully lined curtain that I found at a local antique mall for $60! This one curtain is 8' tall and 15' long! I couldn't get the entire thing in a shot because it was just too big for my poor camera. It could easily be cut apart to make several individual curtains, which is what I'm hoping to do. Love the green color and all the roses!! Isn't it gorgy??*sighs*

    Close up.

Then I found this Italian shadow box jewelry display case on craigslist for $15. Inside I have one new/old treasure and the other three are older finds but I haven't shared them here so I thought I'd take the opportunity now *winks*

The newest find is this cigarette case with a portrait of a woman. $12 at a local antique store. I will definitely be looking to collect more of these.

My next find is from a few years back. I paid $125 (which was actually half price) It's a micro petit point purse featuring a courting couple adorned with some stones and enamel flowers.

The back features a castle and swags with pink roses.

Lined with the palest pink ruched silk that is starting to tear and fray.

Next is this little silver mesh purse/compact that I purchased from an elderly neighbor for $15.

I would love it if these little blue stones were sapphires! *winks* But most likely pretty glass.

And finally this little beaded purse/compact was $10.

I found a new addition to my silver collection at the Goodwill. This silver glass caddy was on one isle for $1.99 and the dessert wine glasses were 50 cents each on another. So all told $4.99... Not bad I think!

And then I did discover something NEW to me... Maybe new to you also?
Let me start by saying I've been in love with antiques for most of my life and in all that time I've never known about this...
    The Odd Fellows!
Who and what are they? Weeellll... here's a little vid about them

The Odd Fellows (it turns out) are the Father of all fraternal organizations. Formed in England in the 18th century. I discovered them when I was trying to find information about these antique red velvet collars that I'd found on craigslist. A set of four of them for $12. Sooo ornate and beautiful with their silver appliques, fringe and tassels. I thought originally they might have been priests vestments of some sort? But was quickly made aware that they were something else. I took a look on ebay and couldn't believe how cheaply these items were selling! Some at 99 cents plus shipping, and some of the beautiful velvet ceremonial robes were little more than $20. Also some beautiful ornate medals for a song! I couldn't help but think of all the custom bag/purse and pillow makers who could use these old pieces in their designs. Am I the last one to know about these? Let me know! I feel I've discovered textile nirvana! Lol! *winks*

Each less than the cost of a latte!

And last (and definitely least) some vintage aqua lace trim from the Value Village for $1.99 and an egg vase for my etsy.

That's it for the flea market finds this week. I hope you'll come back next week for more thrifting fun! And please leave me a comment and I'll do the same for you *winks* I'd LOVE to hear from you! Vanna

Flea Market Finds Pour La Dix-Neuvième Semaine

Hi y'all! It's that time of the week once again for Flea Market Finds!!! Bet you weren't holding your breath for that one huh? *winks*
just a few small things to share for this week. Try as I did to find an amazing garage sale, the weather just wasn't cooperating here in the Pacific Northwest. I hope the sun is gently shining on you wherever you are! And could you send a little my way? *winks*
I'm going to start with my favorite find... a vintage lavender straw hat loaded with flowers from a local antique mall for $24. Kind of a lot for me but it was justtttttt right! Hats seemed to be my theme for the week.

It has lots of my favorite flowsey blowsey flowers!

Then my second favorite find (s) were these pretty vintage red wine glasses adorned with various courting couples from the Value Village. I paid $5.99 for each stem, but I'd never seen any quite like them, so home with me they came *winks*

    Aren't they sweet?

Another antique mall find was this vintage painting for $20 featuring some of my favorite subjects... Sheep!! It's very folk-artsy dont'cha think?

A couple of darling boudoir pillows for my etsy.

As well as this sweet Dresden reticulated compote.

Another little addition to my boudoir doll collection for $12. I'm big time hooked on these!

One vintage avon perfume from 1976 and three vintage compacts (The mesh is Whiting and Davis) The smallest is a coty rouge compact (never used) and the largest needs a little rehab. I'm thinking of adding a rose decal to it? Or perhaps some rhinestones? I just loves me some bling! All for $7!

This little blue silk doll hat was $1 and I've been having fun trying it on every doll and marble bust in the house!

I found a set of these paper mache hand painted trays for $2.50.

And lastly this set of angel plaques to paint and play with ($2) lying on a set of Ralph Lauren Allison ruffled pillow shams for $3.98.

That's all for this week. Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you'll leave me a comment and I'll do the same *winks* And please come back next week for more flea market finds! Vanna

  • NEWS: Cathedral Village bits and bites

NEWS: Cathedral Village bits and bites

Two things of importance to report today. Actually, make that three.

1.) I am still on a carbohydrate high from all the perogies, rice, noodles, pasta, and dessert consumed during Mosaic this weekend. Hope that everyone indulged just as much as I did at this great annual event that showcases just how diverse our city is.

2.) A few weeks ago I posted a review of The Mercury Cafe. Since that time, a number of people have posted comments about the place. Last week, one reader alleged that the Mercury's burgers were not homemade, contrary to what it says on the Mercury's menu. Here's what she wrote:

    Anonymous said...

I was expecting a homemade hamburger when the menu stated all burgers were homemade. To my surprise (and disappointment), I watched the cook take a box of burgers out of the freezer and place them on the grill... there was nothing homemade about them. I will admit they were good burgers for storebought box burgers but definitely not homemade. :(
    May 26, 2010 9:37 PM

I was a bit shocked by this. I really believed the burger I ate was homemade -- both the look and taste of the burger did not seem like they came from Safeway across the street. Then again, you never really know unless you're in the kitchen standing next to the chef.
Today, I posted two more comments on this topic, presumably from employees at the Mercury. They said:

    Anonymous said...

Actually you couldn't be more wrong. The burgers are 100% home made and not store bought - NOR FROZEN. Not sure what you were smoking that day but you were hallucinating. If you are interested in our process of making the burgers talk to the owner next time you are in and he will be happy to show you.
    June 4, 2010 9:59 AM

    Dave said...

Don't post lies. All the burgers are home made!!! Have a look next time you are in.
    June 5, 2010 6:39 PM

I have to say, I'm willing to give Anonymous and Dave the benefit of the doubt. With that, I think this matter is settled. The Mercury's burgers are homemade. And they're good, too.
3.) The former Cafe Orange on Robinson Street has reinvented itself as Orange Izakaya (izakaya is Japanese for pub). While the doors have reopened, the place is back to serving coffee for the next couple of weeks until the new menu and lounge atmosphere are fully ready. Early reports are good.
This from my frien d LRadd on Twitter: " Cafe Orange has been majorly sexified -can't wait for the bar to open. For now having a coffee on the patio. If ur in the 'hood stop by."
And with that I'm off to enjoy this awesome sunny Sunday. Happy eating.

Flea Market Finds Pour La Dix-Septième Semaine

Bonjour mes amis! It's that time of the week once again for Flea Market Finds! Yahoo!!
The pickin's were kind of sorry last week, but I managed to find a few good treasures. I'll start with my favorite, a vintage Louis XVI style bed with barbola swags. It needs to be tightened up a little (A job for the hubbs) and has some slight damage to the ribbon detailing at the top but at $90 it was too cute for me to pass up... I probably should have because I need another bed about as much as I need another hole in my head! LOL!

Isn't it sweet? I'm wondering about white washing it a little. What do you think?

    Perfectly shabby!

And this large vintage tapestry/rug for my soon to be etsy shop featuring courting couples...

I love her pretty face. Is he puckering up? *winks*

    Cavorting cherubs...

    And a folly!

My theme for the week was "barbola" because in addition to the bed, I also found this wonderful antique barbola adorned jewelry box for $10.99 at the Value Village. I'm thinking about painting the flowers?

A folding screen in pink gingham for $4.99 at the Goodwill. A chippy framed frenchy picture and and a chippy plaster display bowl also for etsy.

And a couple of wonderful additions to my boudoir doll collection.

A vintage roll of wallpaper from Sears for $6.

    With cute roses.

A pink gauzy blouse from the Goodwill for $3 at half price.

And lastly some sprays of faux roses for 50 cents.

Well that's all for this week. Thanks for stopping by! I hope you'll leave me a comment. I'd love to hear from you! And I hope you'll come back next week for more flea market finds. Vanna

  • Flea Market Finds Pour La Seizième Semaine

Flea Market Finds Pour La Seizième Semaine

It's time once again for Flea Market Finds!! Yippee Ding Dong!

I didn't post any flea market finds last week because the "finds" were so piddlin' But this week I did manage to find something that I really love!
So I'm going to start with the favorite find... It's a 1920's boudoir doll lamp for $60.
I spotted her from across the room at a local antique mall and my heart skipped a beat! *winks*
Isn't she soooo Marie Antoinette playing peasant at Hameau De La Reine?! She's wearing the cutest little muslin dress in pale yellow with little french knots and a darling little nosegay for a hat! All I need are some sheep to finish the look, or perhaps a petit parapluie? *winks*

She has some bumps and bruises but isn't she sweet?! She's now living in my guestroom armoire with a couple of my other boudoir lamps.

    Another lady in yellow.

I did a post about my other boudoir dolls HERE if you're interested.

I paid full retail ($125) for my next find(s) but I've wanted a set of these boot trees forever and they don't turn up often. I HEART equestrian style! I thought they'd be perfect for the hubbs man cave. Thankfully he loved them too. They were made by the English firm Peal & Co where they would've been created for a pair of bespoke (custom) boots.

The name of the owner is engraved on the tops and through the wonders of google I was able to look him up (Don'tcha just love that?). His name was Sir Anthony Hugh Mostyn Bowlby, 2nd Baronet... Born 13th January 1906. Hmmmm that's cool...
And I wondered what a "baronet" actually was? Wikipedia says:
A baronetcy is the only hereditary honour which is not a peerage; baronets are commoners. A baronet is styled "Sir" like a knight, but ranks above all knighthoods except for the Order of the Garter and the Order of the Thistle. A baronetcy is not a knighthood and the recipient does not receive an accolade.
Possibly good to know when playing trivial pursuit huh? *winks*

Movin' on I found this little rhinestone lipstick case at Rose Petals and Rust for $10.

The lipstick folds out from the back and there's a space for a little mirror (now missing) I found a small mirror at the thrift for 25 cents and I'm going to see if I can cut it to size. Wish me luck!

This rhinestone infinity sew on piece was $6...

I'll add them to my small collection here. I can't get enough of that sparkly stuff! *winks*

I found this cute little guy with a bird made of clay for $2.99 at the Value Village.

And these plates etc. were a Goodwill find. I thought they had a cool handmade look to them and at only 59 cents for the larger plates and bowls and 29 cents for the other pieces, they were too good to pass up!

They're marked El Palomar which turns out to be a pottery company in Mexico founded in the mid 1960's by an American, and is quite collectible... Yay Hooey! Each artist signs their work with an animal, insect or bird.

I also found a few things for my coming soon etsy shop. This lavender tablecloth/ bed coverlet.

A vintage aqua blue pressed glass footed bowl.

A cute floral basket weave planter.

And finally an art nouveau style mirror.

That's it for my finds this week. I hope you'll come back next week for more flea market finds... I hope I'll actually be able to find some! *winks* We've had so much rain lately the sales have been scarce. I hope the sun is shining on you wherever you are! Vanna

    ________________________________________________

Several months ago a food-loving group was created on Facebook. Its name was the "Cathedral Village Needs a Cheap Breakfast Place", or something like that. It seems that the Village just hadn't been the same since the Quality Tea Room shut down several years back.

I quickly joined the group, as did several hundred other Regina folks (What did we ever do before Facebook groups became the new face of activism, by the way?).
The Facebook fan page continued to grow, many of its members calling for a cheap plate of hash browns and bacon... like now.

Well, some wishes do come true.

The Mercury Cafe and Grill opened its doors in April. The place seemed to spring up overnight on the corner of 13th and Robinson streets in a spot that has housed numerous other restaurants.

The Mercury is a diner, no doubt about that. From the bright red vinyl booths to the formica and chrome tables, stepping into The Mercury is like stepping back 50 or 60 years in time. The Mercury is also under the same ownership as Regina's well-loved Novia Cafe, another all-out diner. This is a good thing -- who better to start a new diner than the folks who run one of the city's oldest and best?

I've been to The Mercury twice now, once for breakfast and once for supper. It's hard to find the right word to describe both experiences. It wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't horrible either. Perhaps satisfactory is the right word.

Weekend breakfast bustles and hustles in The Mercury. If you're not there by 11 on a Sunday, you're going to wait in line for awhile. Granted, The Mercury could easily jam a few more tables into the dining room in order to shave some time off the waiting game.

Your choices for breakfast are classic standbys: bacon and eggs; hash browns; pancakes; an omelette. You get the picture. Now, is it cheap? That depends on your definition of cheap. Most items run around the $8-9 mark, plus the cost of coffee and/or juice. I've had cheaper, but I've also had more expensive.

Service can be a little disorganized, but hopefully the servers work that out amongst themselves as the restaurant irons out the operating wrinkles. We had to wait 30 minutes for any food to hit the table at breakfast, almost enough to push us to the breaking point, but not quite. Fortunately, our waitress took good care of us in the meantime.

Now let's talk about supper for a moment. Once again, there are few surprises on the evening menu. Nachos; chicken wings; chicken fingers; burgers; clubhouse sandwiches; and grilled cheese are a few of the choices.

We ordered up a plate of nachos to get things started. With a $10 price tag, we pictured a nice platter of cheesy chips and veggies. We couldn't have been more wrong. A dinner plate with a puny pile of nachos on it was what we got. Even worse: the scarce bits of cheese on the chips were overcooked and rubbery. Epic fail, my friends. Epic fail.

Next up: the burgers. Now this is where the action is at. Tender homemade beef patties are smooshed between fresh buns with all the fixins. I went for the Mushroom Swiss. Big Willie had The Mercury Burger (two patties with fried onions, mushrooms, shaved ham, Swiss and cheddar cheese). All burgers come with a side. We went for the french fries and they were done to perfection.

Big Poppa (my dad) went for the open-faced Hot Turkey Sandwich... which came with hot chicken, oddly enough. But he got past that.

All in all, The Mercury offers up decent food in a comfortable room. The motto seems to be: come as you are, eat what you will. Now if they'd only fine-tune the nachos and up the portion size for most of the breakfast menu, we might have a sure-fire winner on our hands.

Flea Market Finds Pour La Quinzième Semaine

Time once again for Flea Market Finds. Yippee Skippy!!
OK so it actually wasn't a very exciting week for the finds. I wish I had something fantabulous to share, but I'm going to have to settle for some "pretty good"
Also if you haven't entered my followers giveaway HERE there's still a week left. So leave me a comment and I might send ya some loot! *winks*

I'm going to start with one of my favorites for the week. A sweet cement angel for $23. The grotto was an earlier find for $65 (If I remember correctly?) at an antique store. And the rose sheet in the background is part of a full set for $3.99 at the Goodwill. It turned out to be a week for linens. It's funny how a different theme seems to appear each week.

Here's a grouping of some of the finds together. The two shabby chippy aqua column bases were $20 for the set. The glass table piece was a free dumpster pick up. Pink vintage tablecloth $3.99 at the Goodwill. Cement lady statue was an earlier find purchased from a friend for $25. The yellow and rose curtains that you see in the background will be going to my new (coming soon) etsy shop. Yes I too will be going the way of etsy. I'll give everybody a heads up when it's ready to go. I promise you my prices will be GOOD *winks*

Vintage garment bag also going to etsy.

As well as this cute cherub plaque.

This large antique ironstone pitcher was $4.99 at the Value Village. I don't think anybody wanted it because of its discoloration, but I'm going to try the oxy clean soak and see how well it lifts (update to come)

I searched all over the blogosphere for the answer to where I could find one of these wicker cloches? Only to find them at my local Tuesday Morning for $10... YAY!! and while I was there I picked up the cute bottle carrier for $25 as well.

This was my absolute favorite find for the week, an antique majolica flower pot featuring two of my favorite things... cherubs and flower swags for $10 at the Value Village.

Decoupage bottle for $1.99 at the VV. I'm pondering if I should keep it or not? Falls into the "cute but" category. Somebody sure did put a lot of work into this one!

Cute towel with crochet edging for 99 cents at the VV.

A darling rhinestone crown for $4 from a local antique shop. I've been having all sorts of fun trying it on all the different little heads around my house including my pomeranian Jewel... She was NOT amused! LOL!

And lastly this rose clock for $4.50 from a local antique shop.

That's all for this week. I hope you'll come back next week for more flea market finds. And if you've found some treasures yourself (or even if you haven't *winks*) please leave me a comment and I'll come running! *winks* I just love seeing all the other wonderful finds, treasure, and inspiration out there in blogland!
I'm off to play catch up on all the wonderful blog posts I've been missing in the past few days. I feel so behind! So I apologise if I haven't responded to your questions or comments. I'll be getting to them stat! Oh and Happy Cinco de Mayo!! Vanna

Flea Market Finds Pour La Semaine Quatorze

It's time once again for Flea Market Finds!! WHOOT WHOOT!! OK now that I've made some noise over pretty much nothing *winks* I have to say that the amazing finds were not to be found (by me) last week... but... I did find some pretty good scores IMHO. Those of y'all who've read my blog a little, know how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE busts!! I have a collection of marble ladies that I adore, and my madness for busts has worn off on some of my fellow blogging buddies. Weeeeellllll... they found themselves some wonderful frenchy girl busts and had me feeling a little green with envy! Like my friend Chari at Happy To Design HERE And my dear friend Gloria at Happy To Be HERE. So I was tickled PINK when I found this sweet french girl bust from a local antique store for $28!

Speaking of PINK... I liked her so much that I felt my french armoire in my shabby guestroom could use a little revamp, so I added some pink vintage barkcloth curtains on a tension rod and hung them in the background. Here's the before with a mirrored background. You can just spy a reflection of the bed.

    And here's the after

Not earth shattering to be sure. Pretty much the same stuff (with the addition of the new bust and one other cute little thang...

This darling vintage mannequin hand that I found for $11 at the Vintage Nest. I've been having all sorts of fun putting different jewelry and objects on it! It makes a perfect display from my minerva medallion.
Here's a close up on the middle shelf.

    And the top.

What do you think? Is it an improvement at all? The jury is still out for me, but I was too tired to redo the whole thing again so I'm gonna live with it and see how I feel about it later. *winks*
I also found this 1920's lace and silk dresser scarf for $8 and I'm currently using it on a vanity seat in my bedroom. Isn't it pretty?

Here's a shot of the entire gentlemens vanity.

I also found a set of taxidermy pheasants for $65 at a favorite antique store. They'll be flying to my hubbs man cave office *winks* but it was too dark in there for photos today. I loves me my taxidermy birds! You can see my post on my newest peacock HERE if you missed it.

And funny how when it rains it pours? I found this little faux pheasant at the Value Village for $1.99. Do you find yourself buying in groups of things? For some reason it seems to happen to me often. Now if I could only stumble upon a cache of 18th century french chairs for cheaps! *winks*

And my last find this vintage rose tablecloth from the Value Village for $1.49. It has some stains that I couldn't manage to remove, but that's OK, It'll make it easier to use, and I won't mind if somebody spills their red wine *winks*

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you'll leave me a comment and come back next week for more flea market finds. Vanna

Flea Market Finds Pour La Semaine Onze

Well peeps I haven't got much to show ya for this week. But what I do have is just about the strangest find I've ever brought home... And I'm questioning WHY I brought it home? It was a great price... Very unique... Ummmm interesting?... "What is she blathering about?" You might be thinking? Well I'll show ya...

This is just about the wackiest tabaccyest thing I've ever bought home from craigslist! An antique harp case... All six plus feet of it. Thank God it isn't horrendously heavy!

What in tarnation was I thinking? Weeeelll I went and searched the web for these babies and they're expensive! I have no idea why? They just are. I found this one on 1st dibs for $1300. A second one there was listed for $3495 And that's not counting shipping.

Mine was practically a giveaway. I just couldn't say no... Well as y'all know I tend to have a hard time saying no to the odd and strange item... this one certainly qualifies on both counts! Also qualifies as HUGE!! *winks* That one wasn't lost on my poor beleaguered hubby. Do you see the dates printed on the side? Those are the international awards that the harp company Lyon and Healy ( founded in1989) received As you can see the last date on mine was 1921, making it a 1920's harp case. Isn't that handy dandy!

Then I spied this over on the blog Pure Style Home (Fab blog by the way!) Someone made a darling closet out of one.

    Isn't it cool?

Then I spied this harp case bar... hmmmmmm...

What will I do with mine? I think it will be the fanciest garage paint cupboard in my whole neighborhood!... I'm pretty sure... *winks*
I also found another set of library steps. The red ones from this post just didn't work for me. Too much to move around, these are much more useful and only $50. I found similar ones on ebay for $400+

And my last find was an antique bridge lamp with scrolly metal at the Value Village (pronounced Val-yew Vee-lage lol!) For $10! It gave me a great opportunity to use one of my crystal lamp shades. What do you think? It works great for me next to my favorite reading chair. The light globe adjusts so one can have it as high or low as one likes.

I had to pass on so many lovely things this week because I found a very special treasure that I'll hopefully be sharing next week *fingers crossed*
Some of the things I wish I could have hauled home. Pretty bowl for $30-ish

Fab and flousey blowsey flower hat $18.

And I thought these were adorable! A set of little chair/name card holders.

Well that's it for this week. Not my most exciting shopping week I must admit. Hopefully what I lacked in quantity I made up for in "weird"! Lol!
Please come back next week for more flea market finds, it's gonna be a goody! *winks*
